Rangiroa, French Polynesia

Pension Bounty

About this stay

Pension Bounty is a small guesthouse in a tropical garden a minute's walk from the lagoon on Rangiroa's main motu, a few hundred metres from dive clubs, excursion operators and Tiputa Pass. It has four studios and a small traditional fare in the garden, decorated with work by local artists, and breakfast includes homemade jams and fruit from the garden. Some evenings dinner is offered too. With its lower-priced garden fare it is one of the more affordable stays on the atoll, and suits divers, backpackers and island hoppers.

About Rangiroa

Rangiroa is the largest atoll in French Polynesia and one of the largest in the world, a ring of more than 200 motu enclosing a lagoon about 75 km long. It is so wide that the far side lies below the horizon. It suits divers, snorkellers and travellers who enjoy simple island life. Compared with Fakarava it has more services and accommodation, but it is still small-scale, with two villages and a short road.

Getting there

Rangiroa's airport (RGI) is on the main motu between Avatoru and Tiputa. Air Tahiti flies from Papeete in about an hour, and some routes connect with other Tuamotu atolls or Bora Bora. Inter-island cargo ships also call, sailing from Papeete.
