Moloka'i, Hawaiʻi

Pu'u O Hoku Ranch

About this stay

Puʻu O Hōkū Ranch is a family-owned ranch, farm and retreat centre on the remote east end of Molokaʻi, its name meaning "hill of stars". It covers more than 14,000 acres of protected land and farms biodynamically and organically, with a ranch store on site. Guests can stay in a cottage with a full kitchen and shaded lanai, or groups can take the larger lodge. Hālawa Valley and the east-end beaches are nearby, and Kaunakakai is a long drive west. It suits travelers who want space, silence and a working ranch around them.

About Moloka'i

Moloka'i is a rural island of about 7,000 people, many of them Native Hawaiian, and has largely chosen to keep large-scale tourism at a distance. There are no traffic lights and no high-rise hotels. It suits independent travellers who want quiet, outdoor time and an understanding of contemporary Hawaiian community life rather than resort comforts. Accommodation and services are limited.

Getting there

Moloka'i Airport (MKK), near Ho'olehua, is served by small commuter aircraft, mainly from Honolulu and Kahului on Maui, with flights taking about 25 to 30 minutes. There is currently no regular passenger ferry to the island.
