Moloka'i, Hawaiʻi

Wavecrest Resort

About this stay

Wavecrest is an oceanfront condominium complex on Molokaʻi's south shore, east of Kaunakakai along the road toward the island's east end. It is not a hotel: the condos are privately owned, and each owner rents their own unit, so guests book directly with an owner rather than a front desk. Shared facilities include a pool and cabana with grills and a tennis court. It suits self-sufficient travelers and families who want a simple apartment by the water and are comfortable without hotel services.

About Moloka'i

Moloka'i is a rural island of about 7,000 people, many of them Native Hawaiian, and has largely chosen to keep large-scale tourism at a distance. There are no traffic lights and no high-rise hotels. It suits independent travellers who want quiet, outdoor time and an understanding of contemporary Hawaiian community life rather than resort comforts. Accommodation and services are limited.

Getting there

Moloka'i Airport (MKK), near Ho'olehua, is served by small commuter aircraft, mainly from Honolulu and Kahului on Maui, with flights taking about 25 to 30 minutes. There is currently no regular passenger ferry to the island.
